Alloy Steel Orifice Flanges is frequently used in saltwater cooling apparatus, heat exchangers, gas washing, condenser tubes, chemical processing of sulphuric, phosphoric, and acetic acids, and other applications. Because austenitic steels have only 30% of the thermal transmission of non-alloyed steels, preheating is not required for this steel, nor is heat treatment after welding. The high chromium and nickel composition of this product, combined with molybdenum and copper additions, ensures good to exceptional corrosion resistance. It is non-stabilized austenitic steel with a minimal carbon concentration. This steel is also resistant to crevice corrosion, pitting corrosion, stress corrosion cracking, and inter-crystalline corrosion.

Inconel Alloy Orifice Flanges aids in the reduction of the corrosion rate of depassivated steel, molybdenum improves passivity (except in highly oxidising conditions such as mild concentrated nitric acid), and copper improves passivity in the presence of reducing acids such as dilute sulphuric acid. It is commonly used in control and instrumentation, pharmaceutical manufacturing, the oil and gas sector, and wiring in electrostatic precipitators, among other applications. Because their fusing point is lower than that of non-alloyed steel, austenitic steels must be forged with less heat input than non-alloyed steels. They outperform molybdenum enhanced alloys in chloride stress corrosion cracking, pitting, and overall corrosion protection due to their heavily alloyed chemistry of nickel and molybdenum.
